Robert Griffin III’s ‘Family of 3’

So many Heisman winners have done so much to give back to individuals and communities in need.

Robert Griffin III has done his part to continue that tradition.

The Family of 3 is the 2011 Heisman winner’s charitable foundation. The goal: To make a difference in people’s lives.

“With this foundation, I want people to understand that their dreams aren’t out of reach, and that anything is possible,” said Griffin III. “We want to provide hope, support and opportunity to all and be that extra push people need in order to realize and catch their dreams.”

One special focus of Family of 3 is military veterans and their families. As the son of two Army sargeants, Griffin III knows the sacrifices made by military families. Accordingly, Family of 3 works with the Bob Woodfruff Foundation to give aid to injured veterans.

One such veteran being helped is Tim Maxwell, a medically retired Marine who served 21 years and suffered a penetrating traumatic brain injury in Iraq in 2004. Maxwell and his wife, Shannon, started a non-profit called SemperMax Support Fund that seeks to improve the quality of life of those injured during the recent conflicts and provide them with a sense of team.

Family of 3 is also helping Juwaan Espinal, who has cerebral palsy, a group of disorders that impair control of movement due to brain damage. When Espinal was asked to prom by one of his classmates, RG3 — Espinals’ sports hero — was there to take part and make his day extra special. See his story here.
