Auburn To Honor Heisman Winners Jackson, Newton This 2025 Season

Bo Jackson

Two of Auburn’s three Heisman winners will be celebrated during the 2025 season, giving Tiger fans a chance to dust off their favorite No. 2 and No. 34 jerseys.

Not that anyone who uses “War Eagle” as a salutation needs an excuse to don either of those jerseys, of course, but these will be special occasions.

The Auburn Athletic Department will retire 2010 Heisman winner Cam Newton’s No. 2 jersey during the Tigers’ game against Georgia on Oct. 11. He will become the fourth Auburn player whose number is retired, joining fellow Heisman winners Pat Sullivan (No. 7) and Bo Jackson (No. 34) as well as wide receiver Terry Beasley (No. 88).

As for Jackson, Tiger Athletics will celebrate the 40th anniversary of his 1985 Heisman season during Auburn’s Iron Bowl clash with Alabama on Nov. 29.

Newton led Auburn to the 2010 national championship with a 14-0 record, registering 3,998 total yards 49 combined touchdowns. His No. 2 has been unofficially retired since the BCS bowl win over Oregon, but the Tigers are now making it official.

When Newton squared off against Georgia as a player in 2010, he completed 12-of-15 passes for 148 yards and two scores and also rushed for 151 yards and two more touchdowns. Auburn has beaten the Bulldogs just twice since that win.

Jackson’s Tigers fell in his final clash against the Tide in his last regular-season appearance, but the running back great still rushed for 142 yards and two scores in the loss. During Jackson’s 1985 Heisman season, he rushed for 1,786 yards and 17 scores. His jersey was retired in 1992.

Auburn opens its season at Baylor on Aug. 28 and kicks off its home slate against Ball State on Sept. 6.
