The Buzz

— With November now in full swing, is Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma the new Heisman front runner? asks the Tulsa World.  Yes, says Sports Illustrated, NBCSports.com, CBSSports.com and the New York Post.

— The Sporting News has Penn State’s Saquon Barkley leading, with Mayfield right behind him.

— Notre Dame running back Josh Adams was knocked out of last Saturday’s game with Wake Forest, but will return this coming Saturday against Miami.  Notre Dame has released a video on Adams‘ behalf. Oh, and you can buy #33 trucking hats for a good cause.

— WSU was the first team to keep Stanford’s Bryce Love in check. A look at Love’s chances.

— Is Arizona’s Khalil Tate the best player in college football that no one is talking about?

— Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick is also overlooked, writes Athlon.

— Is Auburn’s Kerryon Johnson slowly building an award-worthy season?

— A roundup of Heisman-punditing from the Dallas Morning News.

— Georgia’s Nick Chubb needs just 13 more rushing yards to surpass Bo Jackson into fourth place on the all-time SEC career rushing chart.

“He deserves to be on the list with the rest of the great running backs out there,” Georgia running back Sony Michel said. “He’s an amazing player, amazing person. He deserves it.”

— Iowa defensive back Josh Jackson earned national player of the week honors from Walter Camp after intercepting Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett three times.

— Marcus Mariota showed a lot of leadership in leading Tennessee over Baltimore this past Sunday.

— George Rogers had fun at the Coastal Carolina Fair over the weekend.

— A look at Oklahoma’s first Heisman winner, Billy Vessels.

“He was a very amicable, very easy to get along with, very easy to know, very much a part of the team, very encouraging,” Green said. “But he was tough. He was very tough. On the field as well as off. He had a lot of strong discipline about him, and a very determined football player.

“He was very unique. He was cut a little different from the rest of them.”

— The Heisman Trophy was on display over the weekend in the hometown of the trophy’s first winner.
