PSAL/Others To Stage Football Clinics

NEW YORK, New York (17 July 2000) - The Heisman Memorial Trophy Trust is joining forces with the PSAL Football Coaches Association, the Board of Education's Big Apple Games and the PSAL Wingate Memorial Fund to stage a series of eight city-wide football clinics this summer for high school and pre-high school athletes.

The clinics will consist of a series of motivational, character development and conditioning skills building programs involving Heisman Trophy winners. The clinics will be held July 25-26 and August 1-2 at Big Apple sites in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Bronx and Manhattan athletes will attend clinics at John F. Kennedy High School. Midwood High School Field (Brooklyn), August Martin High School (Queens) and Tottenville High School (Staten Island) will be the host sites for athletes from those boroughs.

Youth programs for pre-high school aged youngsters will be held from p.m. through 8 p.m.

The clinics will be conducted by a staff of 10 high school or youth program coaches and will include a motivational talk by a Heisman winner, stretching exercises and competitive football conditioning drills. T-shirts will be given to all players attending and awards will be presented for excellence in skill and attitude.

Jim DeBenedetto, the long-time coach at Brooklyn Tech and the president of the New York City PSAL Coaches Association, will serve as coordinator for the clinics.
