New Era Caps Signs Heisman Trophy Licensing Agreement
NEW YORK, New York (30 September 2000) - The New Era Cap Company has signed a new licensing agreement with the Downtown Athletic Club and the Heisman Trophy. The license agreement, negotiated by the Collegiate Licensing Company, will allow New Era to develop product that utilizes trademarks and images associated with the DAC and the Heisman Trophy, including past Heisman winners, current Heisman candidates or hopefuls, and the current Heisman winner following the December 9 announcement.

New Era is currently developing designs focusing on the various Heisman candidates for the 2000 college football season. This product combines the trademarks of the Heisman Trophy in conjunction with the trademarks of the university and the student-athlete's jersey number. Universities which are promoting Heisman Trophy candidates and have approved the Heisman candidate licensing program for the 2000 season are: Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Miami, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Purdue and Texas Christian. Since 1935, the Downtown Athletic Club of New York City has awarded the Heisman Trophy annually to the Outstanding College Football Player in the United States. The Heisman Trophy, which is awarded during a special televised ceremony live from the DAC's historic Heisman Room, has become one of the most prestigious individual awards in all of sports. Its 65 recipients include the best that college football has offered through the years, including: Paul Hornung (Notre Dame 1956); Roger Staubach (Navy Testaverde (Miami 1986); Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State 1988); Eddie George (Ohio State 1995); and most recently, Ron Dayne (Wisconsin 1999).
